Optical Metro 5000 Series
CWDM Enclosure
The CWDM Enclosure is an extension of the Optical Metro 5100/5200 product family. Cable operators and other service providers can utilize the CWDM Enclosure in outdoor environments to aggregate, over a single fiber pair, multiple private CWDM optical channels originating from multiple customer premises. Operators can also place it in the basement of a multi-tenant building to service multiple end customers with fully private, multi-protocol, optical wavelength services.
Key Features:
- Hardened solution for deployment in uncontrolled environments.
- Compliancy to the ITU-T CWDM wavelength grid for cross-platform CWDM interoperability.
- Support for a wide range of optical broadband services ranging anywhere from 8 Mbps - 2.5 Gbps (including GbE, Digital Video protocols, Fibre Channel, etc.).
- Carrier grade solution for service delivery assurance.
The CWDM Enclosure brings the value of CWDM technology to the outside plant. Instead of needing both ends of the CWDM fiber to be inside the telecom building, now fibers which terminate on a pole or in a basement can be leveraged with WDM technology to provide multiple new channels. The enclosure and filter packaging offers a fiber efficient FTTN (Fiber to the Node) solution with up to 9 channels multiplexed on a single fiber pair.
When combined with other Nortel Networks products such as the Optical Metro 5100 and 5200 platforms, operators and service providers can offer profitable virtual private Ethernet services over CWDM deep in the fiber network -- and reduce their operational costs.
Key benefits:
The CWDM Enclosure provides various access options to meet service demands and to leverage existing infrastructure. Examples of the cost-effective fiber relief solution offered with the CWDM enclosure:
- Allows the Cable Operator to leverage their existing TV Broadcast distribution fiber pairs to deliver dedicated secure fiber to customer premises— the CWDM Enclosure can be strand mounted at the fiber node location to aggregate the multiple CWDM channels originating from end customer sites and connect them back to the Secondary Hub via a single fiber pair.
- Any Service Provider can place the CWDM enclosure in the basement of a multi-tenant building and run separate fibers up the fiber riser to the various floors to serve multiple end customers. A single fiber pair is used between the multi-tenant building back to the Tier 2/3 Central office.
The CWDM Enclosure consists of two different platforms to meet Ethernet service delivery scenarios.
- Service providers can use either the four or eight channel product to cost effectively select how many additional channels they will need to serve the customers around the CWDM Enclosure location.
- The enclosure and filter packaging offers a fiber efficient FTTN (Fiber to the Node) solution with up to 9 channels multiplexed on a single fiber pair.
