Norstar: Systems - Modular ICS

The Norstar Data Interface (NDI) allows small sites to easily connect a Nortel or 3rd party data terminal equipment to the Norstar Modular Integrated Communications System (ICS). Small sites benefit from the savings of consolidated network services, such as universal T1.

Features

The NDI is an external peripheral that connects the Norstar Modular ICS via any DS-30 fiber expansion port to an external router or data terminal equipment using open synchronous serial interface standards such as V.35, RS232, EIA530, EIA530A, and RS449.

Benefits

The NDI eliminates the need and cost of an external Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit (CSU/DSU). Having a built in CSU/DSU lowers equipment costs, makes installations easier, and eliminates the need for external cabling. Effectively, the Norstar Modular ICS is the small site gateway and terminates all Universal or Channelized T1 WAN services and distributes the voice and data applications appropriately.

The Norstar Data Interface is perfect for Modular ICS customers that:

  • Want to easily integrate a Nortel router or 3rd party data terminal equipment with their market leading voice communications system
  • Already have Data Terminal Equipment and want to integrate it with their Norstar
  • Currently have separate voice and data networks and want to consolidate WAN communication services
  • Are evaluating external CSU/DSU devices that split or channelize T1 voice and data services and consolidate WAN traffic
  • Have high inter-company communication flow and are searching for a solution that will offer significant cost reduction
  • Want to set up a sophisticated Corporate Wide Area Network, private network or company Intranet
