The new Nortel Ethernet Access portfolio is based on Wave Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Networking (WDM-PON) technology that brings new levels of simplicity, flexibility, security, and performance to the delivery of broadband business and residential services.

The Nortel portfolio, one of the industry's first to use WDM-PON architecture, extends the advantages of carrier-grade Ethernet to the "First Mile" and overcomes traffic jams caused by bandwidth-hungry applications such as HD video on demand.  WDM-PON makes it possible to divide a single optical fiber into multiple wavelengths, each capable of carrying the same bandwidth that previously required an entire fiber.

The Nortel Ethernet Access portfolio extends ultra-fast Ethernet services to customers by providing dedicated and secure wavelengths of symmetrical bandwidth to each user.  For service providers, the Nortel solution offers a competitive edge by accelerating the rollout of business and/or residential services with a simple engineering and deployment model.

  The Ethernet Access Business Unit (EABU) 1111 is a colorless termination unit that resides at the business location and can accommodate various types of services through the Ethernet (100Base-TX) port.
• Ethernet Access Business Unit (Indoor) 1112
  The Ethernet Access Business Unit (EABU) 1112 is a colorless termination unit that resides at the business location and can accommodate various types of services through the Ethernet (100Base-TX) port.
• Ethernet Access Residential Unit (Indoor) 1112
  The Ethernet Access Residential Unit (EARU) 1112 is a colorless indoor termination unit that resides at the subscriber location and can accommodate various types of services through the Ethernet (100Base-TX) port.
• Ethernet Access Service Terminal 1100
  The Ethernet Access Service Terminal 1100 offers simple, scalable and secure point-to-point or point to multi-point Ethernet access to end-users. It surpasses traditional FTTx /ETTx solutions by offering Ethernet point-to-point and Ethernet over Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Networks (WDM PON) technology for both business and residential solutions.
• Wavelength Passive Unit 1132
  The Wavelength Passive Filter (WPF) is an Arrayed Waveguide Grated (AWG) filter that takes in coloured light from the Ethernet Access Service Terminal 1100 and splits the wavelengths out towards the Ethernet Access Business and Residential Units.
