The Optical Metro 3500 is a forecast-tolerant, DWDM capable, multi-rate scalable next-generation SONET platform. It is scalable from OC-3 to OC-192 offering DWDM with a wide variety of services such as TDM (DS1, DS3, DS3 Transmux, EC-1/STS-1, OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, OC-192), storage services (Fibre Channel and FICON), and Ethernet (10/100 Base-T, 100 Base-FX and Gigabit Ethernet).
Key Features:
- Full non-blocking switching matrix (5376 x 5376 VT1.5 or 768 x 786 STS-1) provides time-slot assignment (TSA), time-slot interchange (TSI), hairpinning, drop & continue and broadcast functionality across the entire bandwidth at VT 1.5, STS-1, STS-3c, STS-12c and STS-48c granularity.
- Efficiently handles Ethernet services through Resilient Packet Ring technology with a full suite of native rate and provisionable client interfaces.
- Efficient service mapping through Generic Framing Protocol (GFP) and Virtual Concatenation (VCAT).
- Storage extension (1000's of Km) through integrated capabilities such as Buffer-to-buffer Credit (BBC) and flow control.
- Supports service modules that enable high density service termination (DS1 and Ethernet) without stacking multiple shelves (e.g. up to 1008 protected DS1s per single shelf), thus reducing the capital and the operational expenditure costs
