Optical Metro 5200

This product is within the scope of Ciena's purchase of Nortel's MEN assets. Please visit http://www.ciena.com/Nortel for the latest information on Ciena's acquisition of Nortel's Optical Networking and Carrier Ethernet solutions.

The Optical Metro 5200 is a DWDM multi-service platform that delivers 48 protected wavelengths of bandwidth, 10G scalability, sub-rate multiplexing capabilities, network management, and modeling tools that simplify the deployment of efficient DWDM metropolitan networks. The open and modular architecture of the Optical Metro 5200 delivers network scalability, per-wavelength manageability, bit-rate and protocol independence, and ring survivability.

Key Features:
  • High bandwidth transport of broadband services through protocol and bit-rate independent interfaces: SONET/SDH and native data (such as ESCON, D1 Video, Gigabit Ethernet, 10GE LAN and WAN PHY, FICON/FICON Express, Fibre Channel (FC-100, FC200, FC400, FC800, FC1200, ISC/ISC3, DV6000 and more).
  • Voice grade availability & scalability - NEBS and ETSI:
    • 48 protected (96 unprotected) wavelengths
    • Per wavelength and per fiber optional protection switching
    • Point-to-point and survivable ring-based network
    • Performance monitoring and fault sectionalization on SONET/SDH and native data services.
  • Tunable bandwidth for flexibility and increased service velocity:
    • Scalable from 16 Mbps to 10 Gbps per wavelength
  • Interoperability with the Optical Metro 5000 portfolio.
