Ethernet Routing Switch Web Switching Module
Overview
The Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch Web Switching Module (WSM) integrates into the Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 to extend capabilities of Nortel Web Switches — Layer 4 through 7 switching, Web OS traffic management and content-aware switching and security — to the Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 platform. The Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch WSM has four external Gigabit Ethernet or 10/100 TX ports and direct interface to the Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 backplane.
Key Features:
- Combines the port capacity and density of the Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 with Nortel content-aware switching technology, to turn any existing Layer 2-3 Ethernet 8600 platform into a highly intelligent, content-aware device for Layer 2-7 Web switching.
- Delivers content-aware switching features that optimize network resources by using intelligent sub-string matching and Layer 7 precedence lookup and regular expression.
- Facilitates sophisticated session-level persistence methods to maximize profitability while minimizing infrastructure impact.
- Enhances security without degrading site performance via content filtering, advanced Layer 4-7 Delayed Binding, and industry leading application support for firewall, VPN and Intrusion Detection System (IDS) load balancing.
- Meters, controls, and accounts for bandwidth use—by client, server farm, virtual service, application, user class, content type and other traffic classes—and supports guaranteed minimum, metered available, and maximum burst bandwidth rates.
